TRHD New Release Inspiration day 1

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the Day 1 of inspiration from The Rabbit Hole Designs design team for the January 2020 new release!!This release is special, as TRHD celebrates their 1 year industry birthday this month, so it’s all about the PARTY!!  Today the design team is spotlighting 3 different products from the release: Scripty Happy Birthday, Celebrate with Cake, and the Drop It stencil.  As per usual, we are celebrating all week with 3 separate doses of inspiration so be sure to stop by tomorrow too!!

Today’s card is solely inspired by my 10 year old son.  When he saw the products he was like, “MOM! That’s a cool Minecraft stencil!!”  So I couldn’t help but create what his imagination saw, a game-inspired card as seen through the creative eyes of a 10 year old boy who loves his video games!

I chose to use an old school stamping technique with my Drop It stencil, and layered up a background.  BUT!  I modified the technique using dies instead of the traditional 3 pieces of cardstock.  So I started by taking a dark green piece of cardstock and inking it up with the stencil and black distress ink.  After that was complete, I used rectangle dies to cut 3 different rectangles from the single card panel.  I matted each rectangle with a thin black cardstock mat, and layered them up again aligning the stencil pattern.  This technique is super easy, and a lot of fun to create with!  I love when I can take a technique originally meant for one thing (stamps this time) and use it with another (stencil!!).

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a pixelated heart, reminiscent of the same game theme I was going for, and adhered it to the center panel.  My sentiment came from the new release Sassy Birthday part 1 and was heat embossed in white onto black cardstock and mounted directly onto the card.
